Why Save the Shrimp?

Contrary to first impressions,  SavetheShrimp.Com was not born out of super ambition
to save the world, nor do I have a larger than life motivation to don my Berkinstocks and
grab my poster-on-a-stick and march on the White House steps as an Earthy activist.
(Not that there is anything wrong with that, I just have a busy schedule tomorrow with
patients.)

Those who know me, or have worked with me for any period of time, know that my focus
is much more localized.  I learned at a very young age, worry about yourself, and the
rest of the world will take care of itself.  My practice is focused on individual patients,
and my goal has always been to help them to make more educated, beneficial
decisions about their health.  And I know if they do that, the world will be a better place.

SavetheShrimp.Com, however, does have an indirect, almost "tongue-in-cheek"
message.  Consider for a moment the world we live in.  Our current commercial farming
practices use many potentially dangerous pesticides and fertilizers.  These chemicals
will eventually pollute our streams and lakes, and much will eventually drain into the
oceans.  Additionally, look into the sky of any major city.  The smog and pollution is
incredible.  But, eventually the rains will come, and this pollution will be gathered and
dumped into the oceans.  We will breathe easier as we sit down to the evening news,
just to learn that another cargo ship is leaking oil all over the Pacific Northwest.

If you consider what we do "up here" on land, most everything will land on the ocean's
floor eventually in some form.  But the ocean's floor is also the shrimp's dining table.  It
is where baby shrimp will eat and grow up to become big shrimp.  The quality of their
meals is related to the quality of our environment.  The more we pollute "up here"--the
more polluted "down there".  Funny thing is--When is the last time you ate shrimp for
dinner??  Guess it's mother nature's way of saying, "What goes around, comes around."

So if you're feeling the need to detoxify now-let me know, and we'll get started!
